Maebashi Art Tour

Maebashi is a city flourishing with art, the pinnacle of which can be seen in the up-and-coming Shiroiya Hotel. The centerpiece of this tour, Shiroiya Hotel was born from a centuries-old Japanese inn and transformed in the vision of world-renowned architect Sou Fujimoto. Here you can experience history remade into modern art, and learn the story of downtown Maebashi as you explore the surrounding neighborhood. The next day, lace up your hiking boots and climb to the peak of Mt. Akagi, one of Gunma’s three most iconic mountains. Enjoy a view from the peak of Lake Onuma, the Kanto Plain, and Mt. Fuji if you’re lucky! The trek covers approximately 2.6 km with just under 500m of elevation gain, taking approximately 3 hours. Shorter, more relaxed courses are available for guests wanting to take it easy.

Here’s a quick look at what’s in store:
Day 1
・Airport Pickup – we’ll pick you up from the airport* by private vehicle and take you straight to Gunma.
・Shiroiya Hotel – get checked in to Shiroiya Hotel.
・Shiroiya x Maebashi Art Walk – explore the hotel and surrounding area on this guided walking tour.
・Course Dinner – indulge in a 10-course meal of French cuisine showcasing local seasonal ingredients.

Day 2
・Hotel Breakfast – your pick of a delicious and healthy western or Japanese-style breakfast.
・Hiking on Mt. Akagi – breathe in the fresh, clean air as you climb Mt. Akagi and take in the views.
・Shiroiya Bento Lunch – refuel after your hike with a bento box prepared by the chefs at Shiroiya Hotel.
・Return to Tokyo – we’ll take you to your next hotel or closest station so you can continue your journey.
